Some Celtic fans were pretty scathing about Lewis Morgan being brought on against Dunfermline on Saturday.
The 22-year-old was handed another appearance by Neil Lennon for the League Cup quarter-final clash, which the Hoops won 2-1 after the game went to extra time.
Morgan had been impressive in pre-season, but has not enjoyed the most promising start to the 2019/20 season, with many questioning his level.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Sunderland, but did not pull up any trees at the Stadium of Light. Despite that, Lennon has been keen to give him a chance at Parkhead.
Against Dunfermline Morgan was brought on as a 115th-minute substitute for Mikey Johnston, with Marian Shved again left on the bench.
The Ukraine international, many of whom are desperate to see in action after a goal-filled 2018/19 season with Karpaty Lviv, has made just one appearance so far this season to Morgan’s eight.
Celtic fans react
Many Hoops fans were livid with Lennon for electing to introduce Morgan over Shved, even though only five minutes of the game remained.
Most appear to be in agreement that Morgan is simply not Celtic standard:
Beyond ridiculous he’s not even in the squad. Johnston is still learning, he’s not got a full season as first choice in him yet, Morgan is nowhere near the level a Celtic winger should be, and yet we’re adamant on bombing Sinclair out to prove some unfathomable point

Morgan is a St. Mirren player. Not good enough for celtic. Sunderland fans last season wanted him sent back up the road, he was that poor

I don’t like putting Celtic players down
But if Lewis Morgan is the answer I really dont want to hear the question

Can’t believe he doesn’t use him Morgan ain’t Celtic quality no offence to the guy Shved looks unreal and doesn’t get a sniff unreal man

Whilst I agree with some who say it’s unfair to pick on Morgan, the reality is he could not get a regular game in the English 3rd division. Shved, Bayo, Sinclair not getting a chance is ridiculous. Lennon needs to do the honourable thing. #Celtic

Morgan shouldn’t be near this Celtic team brings absolutely nothing to it. How anyone can select him ahead of Sinclair is beyond me. That decision to me is simply down to his wages and doing a Balde in forcing him out. Shameful.

Baffled that Sinclair isn’t even on the bench, Lewis Morgan has done nothing in a Celtic shirt and did nothing on loan to the mackems last season.

Shved was a project from day 1, even Brendan said when he signed and went back on loan in January.
The boy is a talent though and based on performances, can’t see why he’s not getting a shot before Morgan right now.

Noticed we’re after another winger happy with that Lenny obviously doesn’t rate Scott Sinclair. Morgan not ready Johnston not ready imo Shved is a total mystery why he’s not had a chance ?♂️

Morgan on again instead of Shved. This is worrying. Does Lennon see him as a Riordan type player? If so he wont get much of a game.
