At a time in which Celtic’s defence seem to be seriously struggling, one of the last things Hoops fans needed to see was Erik Sviatchenko captain his current side in a Champions League clash at Liverpool on Tuesday.
Neil Lennon seems to be coming under increasing pressure from the supporters. The Bhoys have not won any of their last three games and conceded eight goals in the process.

Shane Duffy has endured a tough start to life on loan. And it is probably fair to say that Kristoffer Ajer has struggled to rediscover his best form for some time now.
Meanwhile, it was ultimately also a disappointing night for Sviatchenko in his latest outing. He skippered the Midtjylland side that faced the Reds at Anfield in the group-stages of the Champions League.
The Danes were beaten 2-0. But they made the six-time champions work incredibly hard for the victory. And the second goal only came from a stoppage-time penalty.

Sviatchenko was extremely impressive against Jurgen Klopp’s men. And that – amidst the Hoops’ current struggles – prompted many to take to social media to slam the decision to let him leave in 2018.
In the same window in which Sviatchenko left, Celtic signed Marvin Compper and Jack Hendry. Neither player came close to making the grade at Parkhead.
There have been some successful centre-back signings since then. Filip Benkovic did well while on loan. And Christopher Jullien appears to boast significant potential.
But some fans do believe that the decision to let Sviatchenko leave is still continuing to haunt the club almost three years on.
Here is how some of the fans reacted to Sviatchenko’s latest performance…
