Celtic have been knocked out of the Europa League by Copenhagen – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter believe the decision to leave out defender Jeremie Frimpong on Thursday night was a bad one.

The Bhoys suffered a 3-1 home defeat against the Danish opposition, who secured a 4-2 aggregate win to progress to the Europa League last-16 draw.

Neil Lennon’s team were stunned by two late goals for visitors Copenhagen, who defended for their lives for spells over the two legs and ultimately were more composed in the final third.

The Scottish club were expected to secure a home win in the second leg at Parkhead and Odsonne Edouard’s chipped penalty levelled the tie at 2-2, with the game set to be heading for extra-time.

But defensive errors cost Celtic on the night and they now have to focus on domestic football for the rest of the season.

A selection of Celtic supporters on social media have claimed that Frimpong should have been involved on Thursday.

The 19-year-old right-back was an unused substitute against Copenhagen and lost out on his starting position to Kristoffer Ajer.

His defending has been a little inconsistent this campaign and the decision to leave him out made sense, but many expected him to be introduced to his more suited wing-back role when Celtic switched to a back three during the second-half.
