Luca Connell played 57 minutes in a pre-season game with State Rennais on Saturday – and some Celtic fans were impressed by the performance of their summer signing.

The 18-year-old completed a move to Parkhead in the summer after he exited English club Bolton Wanderers.

He got some minutes under his belt at the weekend during a goalless draw with State Rennais in a friendly, which gave manager Neil Lennon plenty of opportunity to rotate players.

The fixture has come in-between their two-legged Champions League first round qualifying match with FK Sarajevo and they lead 3-1 on aggregate after winning away in the first meeting.

Connell was not involved in the first-team squad for the European match, but will be hoping to make inroads to the senior team.

The teenager is a defensive midfielder that is strong in the tackle and assured in possession, but is still at the beginning of his cycle as a player.

He broke into the Bolton team last season in the Championship during the second of the campaign and is a highly-rated talent.
