Celtic have lost their place at the top of the Scottish Premiership table after suffering a shock defeat to Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Stadium – and Hoops fans have blasted captain Scott Brown on Twitter.

Ryan Christie was shown a straight red card during the first half for a horrendous tackle, and it swung the balance in play in favour of the home side – as Gary Holt’s team produced a magical display to win 2-0, and keep a clean sheet.

Scott Robinson gave his side the lead after being played through on goal, finishing emphatically with his first touch. Lyndon Dykes made it two, getting in between Kris Ajer and Chris Jullien to lob Fraser Forster with an inch-perfect finish.

Livi did have to rely on goalkeeper Matija Sarkic making a number of saves between the sticks, denying Odsonne Edouard no numerous occasions. However, Celtic did nowhere near enough to get anything from the match.

Brown, 34, could not get a hold of the ball in the middle of the park as Celtic’s normally well-oiled machine faltered. After 74 minutes, Neil Lennon had seen enough of the Hoops skipper, and replaced him with Olivier Ntcham.

Celtic fans were not happy with Brown on Twitter after the match, criticising the holding midfielder for a lack of effort and his part in the first goal, in failing to close down Robbie Crawford who laid on an expert assist for Robinson.

Many have suggested that Brown is “declining”, with Brown now in his 13th season at the club following his £4.4million (Telegraph) move from Hibernian in the summer of 2017.
