Celtic were swimming against the tide when they travelled to Valencia 2-0 down from the first leg of their Europa League last 32 clash last night.
But they didn’t let that affect their performance level, taking the game to their hosts at the Mestalla Stadium with a display that deserved more than the 1-0 defeat Kevin Gameiro’s second half goal ensured it got.
The dismissal of Jeremy Toljan in the first half made the task even harder and Scott Bain was called upon on a few occasions to keep his side in the tie.
Bain was among the most impressive performers on a night where Brendan Rodgers’ side got their pride back after a meek first leg performance, which ultimately cost them the tie, in truth.

Bain is a relative newbie to performing on such a big stage but he didn’t show it, with an impressive, composed performance in challenging circumstances.
Now Celtic are out of Europe, they can focus on their domestic endeavours and although their defensive options tend to be dwindling due to injuries at present, they will remain tight at the back if Bain keeps this form up…
