Celtic fans fume at Neil Lennon for his comments about Old Firm defeat

Neil Lennon has claimed Celtic played with the handbrake on in the Old Firm defeat last weekend – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter raged at the interim boss for his comments.

The Bhoys suffered a 2-0 away defeat to Rangers on Sunday, which means they lost on both trips to Ibrox this season.

They have already been crowned champions and face Hearts on the final day of the season this weekend, before facing the same opponent in the Scottish Cup final for a domestic treble.

But they were given a reminder that Rangers aren’t going anywhere and they are just six points adrift of them in the league table.

Caretaker boss Lennon reflected on the Old Firm defeat in his pre-match press conference ahead of Hearts.

“In modern-day football, there’s a furore after one result. We played with the handbrake on on Sunday, we didn’t play well, but it’s in no way terminal. There‘s still so much to look forward to,” Lennon said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

A selection of Bhoys fans were left fuming with Lennon’s quotes and have suggested he’s not the right man to take them forward.

The Scottish giant are yet to appoint a new full-time boss since the departure of Brendan Rodgers, but Lennon has the chance to get them over the line for a treble this campaign.

It was clear in the Old Firm clash that the fixture meant a lot more to Rangers, who showed tons more spirit and effort.

Here are some Celtic fans responding to Lennon:
