Celtic fans frustrated as club fail to sign £1m-rated star
Another one bites the dust for Celtic. Mat Ryan has chosen to join Real Sociedad despite being linked with a move to Parkhead. The expectation of a summer rebuild at Parkhead if quickly dissipating with the new season on the horizon. Celtic fans have reacted, after Sociedad confirmed Ryan.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper was reportedly a target for the Hoops given that he and Postecoglou worked together with the Australia national team. Certainly, Ryan has been available this summer after returning to parent club Brighton following a loan at Arsenal, where he played three times.
The ex-Valencia and Genk goalkeeper would have been ideal for Celtic. There are still huge doubts regarding Vasilis Barkas and both Scott Bain and Conor Hazard are hardly the long-term answer. Ryan even said this month that he prefers haggis to paella, teasing fans over a potential move.
What have Celtic fans said about Ryan joining Sociedad?
But Sociedad have now confirmed the signing of Ryan from Brighton. The Scottish Sun report that Sociedad have spent just £1million to get the commanding goalkeeper, with a two-year deal agreed. It sees Celtic continue to search for their first big signing of the summer.
With numerous additions needed all over the pitch, Celtic fans are becoming increasingly frustrated with their club’s lack of activity. The likes of Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie, Kris Ajer and more are likely to leave, too. Celtic fans have reacted in frustration after missing out on Ryan.
