Celtic are reportedly interested in enforcer Paddy McNair from English Championship side Middlesbrough – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are divided over the speculation.
TEAMtalk reports that Neil Lennon’s side have made an enquiry for the defensive midfielder and that he could be available this summer for around £3million.
But it’s understood that there is also interest from the English trio of Sheffield United, Blackburn Rovers and Derby County.
McNair is a senior Northern Ireland international that was previously on the books at Manchester United and has plenty of potential.
The 24-year-old usually plays in the centre of the park as a deep-lying midfielder, but can slot in at centre-back comfortably too.
He’s a solid passer of the ball and has a physical presence with his strength too, but he played just 23 times cross all competitions last season for Boro.
McNair looks like a potential heir to the throne of Scott Brown if he moves to Parkhead, but he’s known to be a supporter of Old Firm rivals Rangers.
A selection of Celtic fans on social media have acted differently to the McNair speculation and some feel he could make a sizeable impact, while others don’t want to join and can’t look past his Rangers allegiances.
Here are some of the Celtic fans commenting on McNair:
That’s a solid investment
