Borussia Dortmund have announced that Andre Schurrle has left the German Bundesliga club as a free agent after his contract with the club expired in June – and Celtic fans have discussed signing the attacker.

Schurrle, 29, is a World Cup winner with Germany and has played for some of the best clubs in the Bundesliga. He has scored goals for Dortmund as well as Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and Mainz.

However, of late, his career has gone somewhat downhill. The former Chelsea star and Premier League winner went on loan to Fulham during the 2018-19 season, where he failed to prevent the west London side from relegation.

Last season, he was again surplus to requirements at Dortmund – and went on loan to Russian side Spartak Moscow. At Spartak, he has managed just 18 appearances in all competitions, scoring just two goals.

Despite boasting 57 caps, he is now a free agent and is looking for his next adventure. Celtic, meanwhile, need options out wide despite the signing of Mo Elyounoussi and a match could be made in heaven.

Indeed, Celtic supporters took to Twitter to discuss the potential signing of Schurrle after he became available on a free transfer – and many Hoops fans think he would be a top addition for the Scottish champions.
