Celtic fans critical of Jozo Simunovic performance after Sarajevo win

Jozo Simunovic completed 90 minutes in the win over FK Sarajevo on Tuesday – and some Celtic fans on Twitter fumed at the defender for the quality of his performance.

The 24-year-old started as part of a back three, as the Bhoys kicked off their competitive season away in Bosnia for a first leg Champions League first round qualifier.

Neil Lennon’s team found themselves behind when Mirko Oremus scored a 28th minute goal inside the penalty area, which had come from a corner.

Simunovic was at fault for conceding the corner, as he needlessly misjudged a header that lead to the opening goal.

The Scottish champions did fight back though to record a 3-1 victory and take control of the tie ahead of the second leg at Parkhead.

Mikey Johnston, who has looked excellent in pre-season, unleashed a shot from outside of the penalty area to score a quick equaliser in response to going behind.

Odsonne Edouard then scored in the second-half with a tidy finish and got his goalscoring up and running for the new season, while substitute Scott Sinclair added a third late on.

Celtic weren’t quite at their fluent best, but were away from home in Europe and it’s very early in the campaign.

A selection of Celtic supporters on social media couldn’t help vent their frustration towards Simunovic for his individual display.

They feel that the Croatian is a liability in the backline and he did look uncertain next to Nir Bitton and Kristoffer Ajer.
