Celtic fans claim Jeremie Frimpong should have been used against Sparta Prague

Celtic were knocked out of Europe on Thursday evening with a crushing 4-1 defeat away to Sparta Prague, which will only build more pressure on their manager Neil Lennon.

The Bhoys still have two games left to play in the Europa League group stages, but now know they can’t progress and won’t be playing European football in the New Year.

Despite Odsonne Edouard putting the Scottish giants ahead in the 15th minute, hosts Sparta Prague scored twice in each half to make it a convincing scoreline in their favour.

Celtic have conceded 13 goals in their four group stage matches so far and they’ve looked a long way off the standard they’ve set in recent years in Europe.

Their focus will now turn back to domestic football and they have their backs against the wall in the league too due to the strong start to the season from rivals and leaders Rangers.

A selection of Celtic supporters on social media believe that their youngster Jeremie Frimpong was wrongly overlooked on Thursday and they would have loved to see him used from the bench.

The 19-year-old right-back was named on the substitutes bench with teammate Hatem Elhamed starting at right-back and he failed to get onto the pitch.

Frimpong is a speed machine that has looked a little fragile at times defensively, but he offers a lot going forward with his pace and directness, which is something supporters wanted to see more of in the second-half when they were trailing 2-1.

Here are some Celtic fans discussing Frimpong:
