Report links Celtic with summer move for January target Edson Alvarez

Celtic are set to battle Inter Milan and PSV to sign defender Edson Alvarez, according to America Monumental.

It will see the Hoops revive their interest in the 21-year-old after The Scotsman reported January interest in the player.

A central defender by trade, Alvarez is currently playing for Mexican outfit América.

The youngster has played 39 games for the club so far this season and looks set for a move to Europe this summer.

With PSV and Inter both interested it will see Celtic rival formidable clubs for his signature.

The Hoops will certainly need defensive reinforcements this summer, however.

Filip Benkovic is on loan from Leicester and will return, whilst the Scottish Sun have previously suggested that Dedryck Boyata could leave.

Alvarez has been one of the standout performers in the Mexican top-flight and he would be an interesting signing.

Despite his tender years, the defender has already claimed 20 caps for his country.

Alvarez featured in every game for Mexico during their run to the last 16 of the World Cup last summer.

TBR Verdict

Celtic need to pull out the stops and land Alvarez at the expense of PSV and Inter Milan.

The club will definitely need defensive recruits in the summer and the Mexican can be just the player they need.

Improving European fortunes will be the aim for the Hoops next season and the highly-rated central defender can enhance that possibility.
