Ex-Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson says he completely understands Celtic supporters’ frustrations towards Brendan Rodgers.

Ferguson has been speaking to Open Goal about the acrimonious departure of the Hoops’ manager.

Rodgers departed for Leicester City on Tuesday and Ferguson thinks Celtic supporters have a right to feel a sense of anger.

He told Open Goal: “You can’t argue with his record, it’s phenomenal but the timing has left a sour taste in a lot of Celtic fans’ mouths and rightly so.

“If you look at the language he used during his two-and-a-half years at Celtic. He was a Celtic man, he loved everything about the club. He had the best job in the world.

“At a crucial time he’s then walked out of the club and I don’t think he’s conducted himself in the best manner.”

Rodgers will take charge of the Foxes for the first time at Watford on Sunday

Ferguson stopped shy of using the word greedy to sum up Rodgers’ decision but ultimately questioned the financial incentive.

He continued: “Is Leicester a bigger club than Celtic. Absolutely not. There is the lure of the Premier League, but where’s the patience.

“They were going for the triple treble, he would have left a legend, an absolute hero. Was it for the money?

“When you say ‘I’m a Celtic man’, you ask has he done it for the money? Reports say he’s doubled his wages, but how much money do you need?”

When the dust settles on the move Celtic fans might look back with fondness on Rodgers’ tenure as the club’s boss.

Until then, however, it only seems as though the animosity towards the former boss will continue to grow.
