Former Celtic player Alan Rough has told PLZ Soccer on YouTube that Dedryck Boyata will have hoped to sign for a bigger club than Hertha Berlin.
The Hoops defender has been linked with a switch to the Bundesliga courtesy of The Scottish Sun.
The report suggests that Boyata was subject of interest from the Germans last summer, who were prepared to pay £4.5 million.

Boyata is currently nursing an injury but is out of contract during the summer.
He will be free to leave Celtic for nothing and The Scottish Sun say he could earn up to £40k-a-week in Berlin.
Rough, who played five times for the Hoops in 1988, thinks Boyata may hold out for a bigger club, however.
He told PLZ Soccer: “I think he thought he had a wonderful big competition there and he was going to demand bigger clubs than Hertha Berlin, but that’s not the case.

“It’s all about the money now. I don’t know what wages he’s on at Celtic, but certainly, if they’re offering that kind of money that’s what players are into now.”
TBR Verdict
Boyata has played 32 games for the Hoops this season and he will leave a big void to fill in the summer.
Whoever gets the permanent job as the club’s new manager will certainly need a central defender.

Rough has a point that Boyata will have probably expected to be signing for a bigger club that Hertha Berlin. Nonetheless playing in the Bundesliga week in, week out, will still be an upgrade on the Scottish Premiership.
The money is reasonable and is certainly substantial enough for him to head to Germany but Rough is also right there. Players do tend to be led by money these days and Boyata’s package in Berlin will be financially lucrative.
