Celtic cult hero Alan McInally has admitted that he feels “a little” for Glasgow Rangers in terms of the Scottish Premiership title race, with Parkhead looking set to pip Ibrox once again to the trophy.
Steven Gerrard’s charges had high hopes of knocking Celtic off the top of Scottish football this season after making several decent additions over the summer.
Indeed, Rangers went into the winter break having beaten Neil Lennon’s side 2-1 at Parkhead and very much playing the Bhoys off the park on that occasion.
After action resumed, however, the Ibrox side’s domestic form collapsed, while Celtic were relentless in seeing off league opponents.

By the time Scottish football was suspended in wake of the global health crisis, Celtic sat 13 points clear at the top of the table, have already won the League Cup, and are favourites for the Scottish Cup, should it go ahead.
“I feel a little for Rangers as they were hanging on Celtic’s coat-tails,” McInally told the Scottish Sun. “But since the winter break they haven’t got as many points as they’d have wanted.
“Psychologically, the results Celtic have had means they’re in position to be champions – and the enforced break will have done Celtic the world of good.
“Whether it’s Scotland or England I’d like to see the seasons finished. But it’s looking more and more likely the seasons will be called as we’re being governed by something none of us have ever seen before.”
According to reports from multiple sources including The Scotsman, a conference call is scheduled between the top-flight clubs and SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster this afternoon to discuss ending the season.
TBR View:
This season really looked like the one where Rangers would at the very least return to silverware-winning ways, while their strongest XI have shown they’re more than a match for Celtic’s equivalents.
However, losing to some of the league’s more modest teams post-break, combined with Celtic’s relentless form in dispatching of similar sides, has cost Rangers dear.
Though they’re getting closer each year, they’ve got some serious work to do for next season to ensure they don’t fall short again.
