Celtic could help Tottenham land reported target Boubakary Soumare

Tottenham are reportedly battling Manchester United for Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare ahead of the January transfer window and Scottish champions Celtic could be about to help them land the French midfielder.

The Sun claim both Spurs and Manchester United are looking to sign 20-year-old midfielder Soumare, who has broken into Lille’s first team over the past couple of the seasons. Despite his tender age, he has clocked up 62 Lille appearances.

The report claims Soumare could be allowed to leave Lille for a fee between £40million and £50million. The France Under-21 international has impressed in the Champions League, especially against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.

Spurs are said to be in the market for a central midfielder despite Jose Mourinho boasting Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele, Oliver Skipp and Victor Wanyama – though the latter is likely to leave the north London club.

Celtic could help them achieve a move for Lille’s Soumare. That is because the French side are believed to be interested in landing Hoops star Olivier Ntcham, with Get Football France News reporting Lille are being linked with Ntcham.

Ntcham, also a member of France’s Under-21 side, has started just 15 of his 27 league and cup appearances for Celtic this season – with the likes of Scott Brown, Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie being preferred.

Since joining Celtic, the former Manchester City midfielder has clocked up 112 appearances for the Scottish side – helping his side win seven trophies since joining the club. But he has been linked with plenty of sides, including FC Porto.

Now, he could move to Lille ahead of the January window and if Lille sign Ntcham, then surely the French side will be more willing to offload Soumare next month, or even in the summer.
