Rapid Vienna have confirmed on Twitter that left-back Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo has left the club’s training camp with reports stating that Celtic are close to landing the defender this summer.

The Times claimed late on Tuesday night that Celtic are hoping to complete a £3million move to sign 24-year-old Bolingoli-Mbombo within the next 48 hours, and have him available for next week’s Champions League qualifier.

Celtic travel to Bosnia to take on Sarajevo in the first leg of the first qualifying round tie on Tuesday, with the squad to be confirmed soon. Kieran Tierney will remain first choice, but Bolingoli-Mbombo could be his replacement.

Now, a move could be in the offing, as Rapid Vienna confirmed on their official Twitter account that the impressive left-back was given permission to leave the Austrian club’s training camp on Tuesday.

TBR’s view – Is £3m Bolingoli-Mbombo too much to act as Celtic back-up?

Celtic are not blessed with enormous amounts of money and although they are head and shoulders above the rest of Scotland’s sides, £3million is a lot of money to act as Kieran Tierney’s back-up.

So, does it suggest that Tierney is on his way out? Or has Neil Lennon chosen to blow a large sum on a player that will only act as the Celtic star’s replacement?

Lennon still needs to bring in another winger, a centre-back and most definitely a right-back. So signing a left-back for £3million could leave the Hoops gaffer with little left to address other areas – if Tierney stays.
