Celtic lost out to fierce rivals Rangers yesterday during a hotly-contested Old Firm derby. Steven Gerrard’s men prevailed, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from James Tavernier and Scott Arfield.
It remains to be seen whether the defeat will have any bearing on Neil Lennon’s future as the club’s boss. The Northern Irishman is currently in temporary charge, with his position likely to be reviewed at the end of the season.
Lennon should complete a triple treble. A victory over Hearts in the Scottish Cup later this month will put the seal on the emphatic triumph and add substance to his case for the job on a permanent basis.

There is a suggestion that appointing Lennon to an extended stint at the club’s boss would represent a backward step. His day in the sun managing an elite Scottish club has come and gone. If the club is to seriously challenge on the European stage they perhaps could do with a bigger name.
Chris Hughton was perhaps harshly sacked by Brighton earlier today. The 60-year-old had led the Seagulls to Premier League safety for the second successive campaign but had endured a run of three wins in 23.
Celtic could do a lot worse than opt for Hughton. His track record in the Championship is superb, winning promotion with Norwich, Newcastle and Brighton; whilst he has developed young talent in all of those previous positions.

A respectable character in the world of football, Hughton would be more than capable of attracting quality players to Celtic Park. His enthusiasm and drive to succeed would match the ambition of the hierarchy and as a result, he would be more than capable of continuing the club’s dominance.
