Celtic captain Scott Brown has discussed the quality of Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama following his previous spell at Parkhead where they were teammates.

Wanyama previously enjoyed a two-year spell with Scottish giants Celtic earlier in his career and won back-to-back league titles.

The 27-year-old has since impressed in the Premier League with Southampton and been on the books at Spurs since 2016.

Brown has spoken about how destructive the Kenya international was in the centre of the park, where he used to partner him for the Bhoys.

Wanyama has struggled though this season with Spurs due injuries and form, meaning he’s made just 12 appearances across all competitions.

According to the Evening Standard, the defensive midfielder is one of 12 players at the club too that could be transfer listed in the summer.

“He was an absolute bulldog. Ran through a brick wall for anybody. He was fantastic for us. You just knew as soon as he got the ball and started running forward, if you got in his road he was taking you with the ball,” Brown said, as quoted by the club’s official Youtube account.

“When he first came in the gaffer thought maybe play him centre half, put him in the middle of the park and he made things tick.”

TBR’s View:

Wanyama’s potential exit at the end of the season should come as no surprise to Spurs fans, as he’s fallen out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino this campaign and looks a shadow of the player he once was.

The midfield destroyer was excellent and a mainstay in the team when he joined from Southampton but has really been held back by injury problems.

Wanyama is one of several players to really learn their trade at Celtic and Liverpool sensation Virgil Van Dijk is a shining example of that.

If he can overcome his fitness concerns, then he could be a top signing for another club in the summer with Spurs believed to be open to offers.
