Arsenal v Chelsea - Premier League

Celtic captain Scott Brown and Filip Benkovic send messages to Arsenal's Kieran Tierney

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney was one of the Gunners’ best players on Saturday evening as the North London club beat Chelsea 3-1 at The Emirates to end a dismal run of form – and Celtic captain Scott Brown, as well as Filip Benkovic, have reacted.

Tierney, 23, has started Arsenal’s last 13 Premier League matches and has proved a crucial part of Mikel Arteta’s side – finally showing Arsenal fans why the Gunners paid Scottish champions Celtic £25million to sign the Scotland international.

His form and leadership has seen Arsenal fans suggest Tierney as the club’s next captain on social media, as he edges closer to 50 appearances in all competitions for Mikel Arteta’s side. Certainly, he was pivotal in Saturday’s 3-1 win.

It was his excellent run that resulted in a penalty for Arsenal, which was powerfully dispatched by Alexandre Lacazette. Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka also scored, and Tierney posted on Instagram after the match – underlining his delight.

Tierney has been praised for his intensity at Arsenal, training as if he was playing – with Freddie Ljungberg recently stating that of the Arsenal squad, the Gunners left-back is a winner, as per the Athletic: “He has definitely got that winning edge.”

He has learnt that intensity at Celtic where anything but a win is deemed as a failure – something which has placed Neil Lennon under enormous pressure of late. Brown, his former Celtic captain, and ex-teammate Benkovic commented on his post.

Thomas Partey also commented.
