Neil Lennon has reassured Celtic supporters over James Forrest after the winger was linked with a move to Zenit Saint Petersburg.
The 28-year-old has emerged as a transfer target for the Russia club as reported by The Scottish Sun, who claim they want to offer him a contract worth a whopping £70,000-a-week.
Russian sides have until September 6 to conclude any transfer business, and the club are seeking more incomings having only signed Malcom so far.
Celtic supporters will be pained to hear of the interest from Zenit having just lost Kieran Tierney to Arsenal, but Lennon has moved to ease any fears Forrest will leave Parkhead.
He said (quoted by The Glasgow Evening Times): “[Forrest] is another one that we don’t want to go.
“There is no confirmation of that [Zenit interest], it is just speculation, but it doesn’t surprise me. However, from my point of view we want James here and he is happy here as well.
“It’s important to hold on to your better players, we have already sold one so we don’t want to sell any more.”
After selling Tierney, Celtic cannot be considering letting Forrest go as well.
The ace is a key player for Lennon and will be instrumental in the Hoops’ bid for consecutive league title number nine.
Forrest is under contract until 2022 meaning the Bhoys are in a very strong position over the player.
He himself seems very happy at Parkhead so Zenit will surely have to break the bank to land him – and even then it would be tough.
