Celtic and Rangers transfer link to Florin Andone is not what it seems

Celtic and Rangers fans can likely get ready to see their two clubs being linked with a move for Romanian striker Florin Andone.

That’s because reports in Turkey are suggesting that the Brighton-owned Galatasaray loanee is on the radar of both Old Firm clubs.

As reported by the likes of Yeni Akit Gazetesi, Fotomac, Fanatik, and Sabah, both Celtic and Rangers are keen on the Romanian frontman, who joined Brighton from Deportivo La Coruna in a £5.25 million deal back in 2018, as reported by The Sun.

Those are three rather reputable sources in Turkey and Celtic and Rangers would undoubtedly welcome a player of Andone’s qualities.

Whilst he struggled to score goals in England, the 27-year-old was a potent finisher in Spain with Cordoba and then Deportivo. With Celtic worrying over the future of Odsonne Edouard and Rangers doing the same regarding Alfredo Morelos, a deal does make sense.

But the truth is, there does not appear to be any interest from Celtic and Rangers in the player. What has happened, is an echo chamber, caused by some unfortunate translation and crossed wires.

The initial report can be traced back to Sky Sports. They reported earlier in the week that Brighton are keen on Clermont Foot’s Austrian striker Adrian Grbic. The report also states that Celtic and Rangers are tracking the 17-goal star, which does appear to be accurate.

Telekom Sport in Romania picked up the report and tried to put a spin on it from their own perspective. They suggested it means more trouble for national team striker Andone, who will return to Brighton at the end of his loan spell with Galatasaray as the Turkish side do not want him permanently.

Sport.ro then got their wires crossed, believing Telekom were suggesting that Andone was a target for Celtic and Rangers, when in fact Grbic is. From there, Turkish sources picked up the report and, soon enough, Celtic and Rangers fans could have expected to hear of their own interest in the player.

However, it seems merely an error in translation and communication. Celtic and Rangers do seem to be keen on Grbic but Andone, currently, looks like an erroneous link.
