Reports in the Italian media are suggesting that Cedric Soares will not complete a permanent move to Inter Milan from Southampton in the summer.
According to Calcio Mercato, Cedric is ‘destined’ to return to Southampton when his half-season loan spell at the San Siro expires.
Cedric will return to Southampton and hope to impress Ralph Hasenhuttl, provided the Saints stay in the Premier League. But the Portugal international’s chances of getting back into the side could be damaged due to the emergence of Yan Valery.
Southampton have unearthed a gem in Valery, who only made his senior debut this season. But the 20-year-old is holding his own in the Premier League with consistent performances from right-back.
After making his debut in November, Valery has played 17 times for Southampton’s first-team, establishing himself as the undisputed starting right-back.
And the ex-France under-18 defender has shown a different side to his game in the past two matches, netting against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
This has only added to Valery’s burgeoning reputation and he looked destined to have a long and successful career in the top flight.
But this is bad news for Cedric, who now looks like he could be surplus to requirements at both Inter and Southampton next season.
