Cavaleiro must be pleased he didn’t join Fulham after the week that was

As Wolves gained promotion to the Premier League and Nuno Santo looked to improve his squad, there was a chance Ivan Cavaleiro would be the odd man out.

The wideman was reportedly the subject of summer interest from may clubs including Fulham, but ended up staying at Molineux.

When Santo kept an unchanged side throughout his side’s impressive start to the season, perhaps Cavaleiro was regretting his decision but the events of the past week will no doubt have made him glad that he stayed.

Firstly, he was handed the start that his patience this season deserved at the Emirates Stadium last weekend and his energy was a catalyst for a much-improved Wolves display.

The wideman opened the scoring in a match that Santo’s side really deserved to win, but more importantly saw them serve up a much more energetic and disciplined performance than they have been able to muster in recent weeks.

Then, Fulham sacked their manager Slavisa Jokanovic and brought in Claudio Ranieri. The Italian will likely haul the Whites out of trouble but when the manager changes, new signings can get twitchy.

Where he is now, under a manager he trusts having just scored against a top six side, will make Cavaleiro glad he stayed.
