‘Caused havoc’: Media left amazed by 17-year-old Arsenal youngster’s display despite loss to Juventus
The Gunners wrapped up the mid-season break with a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Juventus on Saturday.
Arsenal were the architects of their own downfall as both Rob Holding and Granit Xhaka scored own-goals to hand Massimiliano Allegri’s men victory in north London.
Despite the defeat, Arsenal were by far the better side for most of the game and even had two efforts chalked off. Eddie Nketiah had a goal ruled out in each half and Arteta’s men couldn’t find a way through the resilient Juventus backline.
But there were certainly some positives for Arteta to take from the game, especially Cozier-Duberry’s display.
Media left amazed by Cozier-Duberry
Cozier-Duberry replaced Xhaka just after the hour mark and the 17-year-old certainly impressed during his cameo display.
The winger played on the left-hand side of the front-three and caused the Juve defence big problems with his direct running.
Football.London gave the youngster an eight out of 10 rating, despite the fact he was only on the pitch for 28 minutes.
The outlet wrote: “Looked really bright after coming on. Still only 17 but didn’t look out of place on the first team scene.
“Caused havoc down the left. A really impressive Emirates Stadium bow.”
90 Min gave the youngster a seven out of 10 for his display after what was an impressive showing from the Englishman.
The Hale End academy has produced some brilliant talents in recent years and it looks like Arsenal could have another gem in their ranks.
Cozier-Duberry is yet to make his first-team debut under Arteta but has been impressing for the U21’s.
The youngster has bagged four goals and provided as many assists in 12 appearances for Arsenal’s youth sides this season.
He looked like a very similar player to Bukayo Saka yesterday in terms of his ability to beat opposition defenders and the fact that he is also left-footed.
Cozier-Duberry will be hoping that his display impressed Arteta last night as he aims to force his way into the first-team set-up. He was recently spotted in Dubai with the Arsenal squad and has been training with the first-team.
Arteta has shown that is more than willing to give youngsters a chance and Cozier-Duberry could become the next star to come out of north London.
