Max Power was sent off for Sunderland yesterday but they still won the game 2-1.
Sunderland were away at Bradford City and they sneaked a victory as both sides ending the match with ten men.
Goals from Josh Maja and Jack Baldwin, either side of an Anthony O’Connor equaliser, were enough to see Sunderland home to victory.
That is despite Power giving away a penalty and getting sent off in the resulting moments.
Power was yellow carded for the initial foul and then appeared to lash out, earning himself a straight red card.
This is not the sort of temperament that Jack Ross wants from his players. When you are leading in a tightly-contested game, you need your players to keep their cool.
That red card could easily have cost Sunderland the three points and hampered their promotion charge.
And this is not Power’s first dismissal either. Just three games ago, the former Wigan Athletic midfielder lost his head again and was sent off.
There is clearly a problem here and Ross will be hesitant to put Power back on the field.
But at the same time as Power continues losing his head, it seems a former hot head – Lee Cattermole – is shining.
The 30-year-old is renowned for his ill-discipline. But despite picking up several yellow cards this season, he has led by example on the field.
Cattermole’s starting place is surely set in stone as Power drops down Ross’ pecking order.
