Report: Arsenal boss has two goalkeepers in mind to replace Petr Cech

Arsenal will look to bolster their goalkeeping ranks this summer by signing either Neto from Valencia or Real Madrid’s Keylor Navas, according to The Sun.

Petr Cech is set to retire during the summer and that will leave Bernd Leno as the only senior custodian in place at the Emirates Stadium.

The report claims that Real Madrid have told Navas that he will be surplus to requirements next season; whilst Neto is also on boss Unai Emery’s list of targets.

The Brazilian signed from Juventus two years ago and according to The Sun, he has already discussed a move to Arsenal.

If the Gunners land the Europa League crown later this month, they will earn a place in the Champions League. That could help them land Navas or Neto, whilst it would also ensure the goalkeeping ranks are well-stocked ahead of a busy 2019/20 campaign.

TBR Verdict

Both Navas and Neto would represent significant upgrades on Cech. It does seem unlikely, however, that either of the linked stoppers would want to play second fiddle to Leno.

That seems unlikely given that both would be leaving big clubs to join the Gunners and each goalkeeper will want to play regularly.

Competition for places is always healthy and either player signing would bolster the goalkeeping department.

Brazilian ‘keeper Neto would probably represent the better signing of the two. He has played 47 times for Valencia this season, whilst Navas has largely been an understudy to Thibaut Courtois.

The Real Madrid man also earns £85k-a-week (Total Sportek) and Arsenal might not want such an expense on another goalkeeper.
