Arsenal youngster Catalin Cirjan has posted on Twitter after agreeing professional terms for the first time – just months following his move to Arsenal from Romania in the summer.
Cirjan, 17, joined Arsenal in the summer after coming through the ranks with Romanian minnows Viitorul Domnesti. He has since been starring for The Gunners’ Under-18 side.
This season, the Romania Under-18 international has featured eight times for the club’s Under-18 team. In that time, he has clocked up three assists and has impressed Per Mertesacker – who remains head of the academy and Under-23 side.
Cirjan is looking to progress into the Under-23 side in the near future, which will be the next step in his development. The attacking midfielder has posted on Twitter after putting pen to paper – though the length of the deal remains to be seen.
Cirjan has plenty of competition ahead of him. In the first team, Mesut Ozil is first choice while Joe Willock, Emile Smith-Rowe and Dani Ceballos are also options for Freddie Ljungberg.
For the Romanian, his next step will be looking to break into the reserve side and perhaps earn himself a loan move to a Football League side. But his new deal will give him the time to develop.
