Cascarino reacts to reports Arsenal want to sign Marcus Rashford

Tony Cascarino has told talkSPORT that he does not see Marcus Rashford moving to Arsenal at all, insisting that he would have to improve considerably.

Rashford’s future at Manchester United looks uncertain. His form has been poor for some time. And he has fallen out of favour under Ralf Rangnick.

Of course, United will appoint a new manager in the summer. But it would appear that their Premier League rivals are waiting in the wings in case the England international becomes available.

Reports have previously claimed that Arsenal are amongst the sides keen on Rashford. The Gunners will need to strengthen their attacking options at the end of the campaign. Both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract in the summer.

It would be a statement for Arsenal to sign Rashford. However, Cascarino has questioned whether it would be the right move for Mikel Arteta’s men.

“I’m not sure if Marcus is the solution for Arsenal because Marcus is not clinical. He doesn’t particularly lead the line well. And that’s one of the two traits that you need if you’re going to play in an Arteta team,” he told talkSPORT.

“Marcus would have to become a better player. You’d have to pay a big wage, and a decent enough transfer fee so I don’t see that move at all. I might be wrong. I never think that people can’t improve, that’s just ludicrous to think that.”

Rashford move certainly a gamble for Arsenal

Rashford could be an absolutely incredible signing for Arsenal. But he has not looked anything like the player who burst onto the scene at Old Trafford over the last couple of years.

So it would certainly be a risk for Arsenal to make a move. As Cascarino notes, he will not come cheap at this stage of his career. Those behind the scenes at United will surely want a fee that reflects the player that he could be if he regains his best form.

He has previously been labelled ‘world-class‘. And United are hardly going to do Arsenal a favour with the fee given the trajectory Arteta’s men are currently on.
