Aston Villa and Tottenham could be on red alert as Braga manager Carlos Carvalhal suggested that star man Paulinho could leave the club in the summer, during an interview with The Sun.
The 28-year-old was linked to the Premier League duo, whilst Everton and Wolves were also cited as potentially interested parties during the summer transfer window.
During the 2019/20 campaign, the striker scored 25 goals in all competitions, leading to his current employers offering a new five-year contract with the club.
Paulinho has two goals and two assists to his name this season during a relatively slow start to the campaign by his standards.
Carvalhal thinks his prized asset could be on his way during next summer’s transfer window.
He told The Sun: “Paulinho is a good striker. He was linked last season with Aston Villa and Tottenham.
“I believe at the end of the season he will move. Who knows, maybe to England.”
The Portuguese frontman has caught the eye of former Sheffield Wednesday boss Carvalhal.
He previously raved about him during an interview with A Bola, saying: “Up close he is an excellent player.
“He was the one who surprised me the most. I was expected good but after seeing him daily I was amazed. He is a much better player than what you see from the outside.”
TBR View – Could Paulinho cope with the demands of English football?
Although the striker enjoyed a quality 2019/20 campaign, he has flattered to deceive this season and will need to improve his form.
Tottenham signed well during the summer transfer window and perhaps that ship has sailed for Paulinho.
A move to Aston Villa is a different proposition, however.
Dean Smith hasn’t attacked the European market as much this year and a good start to the season has ensued.
An injury to Ollie Watkins could be detrimental, however, and signing another striker might not be such a bad thing.
O Joga has reported that Braga values him at £27 million, which does seem a lot.
If Villa could come to some sort of agreement though it might prove a deal worth doing.
