'You wouldn't': Jamie Carragher says one Liverpool man is 'not the most technical', but he'd hate to face him
Jamie Carragher was speaking about Darwin Nunez last night as Liverpool lost to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
Nunez was at his inconsistent best against City. He played well on the whole but in the end, missed crucial chances that saw the Reds lose out on the night.
However, Carragher chose not to lay into Nunez. Instead, he spoke on Sky Sports after the game and insisted that Nunez will have big moments due to his sheer involvement.
“He is a rough diamond. He will never have a quiet game, he will either score or will show a series of missed chances. He is not the most technical in terms of finishing,” Carragher said.
“He tries to burst the net but there is definitely something to work with but you wouldn’t want to play against him with that pace. I think right now because of the Diaz injury he has played through the centre. I think when Liverpool get Roberto Firmino back he will go wide, but he will become that centre forward in future.”
Nunez has had an inconsistent start to life as a Liverpool player. He has managed to get in and among the goals but a number of big misses have also caught the eye.
TBR’s View: Nunez will be a Liverpool success
Jamie Carragher will likely speak about Darwin Nunez more than once more this season. And it’s likely he’ll be frustrated and impressed with him in equal measure.
Nunez has looked the part at times since arriving at Anfield. On his day, and as he showed last night at times, he can run past any defender in the league with his pace.
However, the crucial element of finishing needs to improve. At times he is snatching at chances and ultimately, the casual fan will judge him on his goals.
