Tottenham relinquished their unbeaten home record as Newcastle marched into North London and made Conte’s men look distinctly average.

Goals from Callum Wilson – following a nightmare Hugo Lloris moment – and the in-form Miggy Almiron, ensured Newcastle closed the gap on Tottenham and prevented the home side moving within two points of Arsenal.

For Spurs, it compounded a poor week in which they were soundly beaten by Manchester United. Once again, question marks can be raised about Spurs’ performance and at times, Newcastle looked the far better side. Indeed, the Tottenham crowd weren’t happy in the pouring rain, and Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher noticed that those home supporters started doing just minutes before half-time.

“There are boos around the stadium now,” Carragher said on Sky Sports commentary just before half-time.

Tottenham fans have being getting annoyed in recent weeks at what they perceive to be defensive performances from their side. Injuries are dictating some selections, and Spurs were hit once more prior to kick-off with news of Pierre Hojbjerg’s injury.

Daniel Levy, meanwhile, won’t be too happy with hearing boos inside the stadium and this week might well have some awkward questions for Antonio Conte.

TBR’s View: Tottenham Looked Poor Compared To Newcastle

There was a big difference between the two sides here was massive. Newcastle looked a side fully on board with their game plan and manager’s ask. They were solid, but also brave going forward and controlled parts of the game.

Tottenham, on the other hand, looked shaky in defence without Cristian Romero and in attack, Kane and Son were often left isolated.

The sooner Conte gets the likes of Kulusevski back in the fold, the better. Spurs blew a big chance to get within touching distance of Arsenal today but once more, it wasn’t to be.
