Carragher expects Alexander-Arnold to be fit straight after international break

Jamie Carragher thinks that Liverpool played a Sir Alex Ferguson-style trick with the fitness of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold pulled out of the England squad for the games against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast and the official club website at the time read:

“Trent is out with a hamstring. He cannot be part of England as well – no good news, we will see how long that takes,” said Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp was then asked if Alexander-Arnold will be sidelined for weeks and replied: “Yes.”

On the Overlap, Gary Neville and Carragher were discussing Liverpool’s fitness going into the business end of the season and Carragher said he expects Alexander-Arnold to be back soon.

“If Liverpool got an injury to van Dijk, that would be huge. I don’t think City can lose one player where the drop would be big, but Liverpool’s would be huge.

“Those games, every three days, you could get an injury, and it deflates everyone. Even Trent, losing Trent for six weeks and you’ve lost half your goals,” said Neville.

Carragher chimed in: “He’s back after the international break! I think it was a little… A Ferguson trick!”

Carragher is referring to using an injury to get out of international duty before getting back fit for club duty.

We will see if Alexander-Arnold can play against Watford, but the key is getting him back fit for the clash with Manchester City on April 10.

Alexander-Arnold has found it hard to establish himself for England but probably would have played a decent amount in the past week.

Reece James also pulled out of the squad, with Kyle Walker-Peters called up and central defender Ben White started there against the Ivory Coast.
