Carlos Soler seemingly ends Tottenham talk by signing new Valencia deal

It seems Carlos Soler will not be making a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the near future, after the midfielder penned a new deal with Valencia (official website).

The Spaniard has signed up until 2023, and any lingering hopes Spurs had of landing him in a transfer have surely now disintegrated – with the deal reportedly including a whopping €150 million/£127 million buyout clause (Football Espana).

Soler was linked with a move to Spurs earlier this year, with ESPN claiming the club were plotting a £30 million bid.

A bid never came, but The Daily Mail reported the club were set to return for Soler in the summer.

Spurs will now have to look elsewhere for a new wide option, as they will likely only be referred to that release clause if they wanted to enquire about Soler.

TBR’s view – Spurs can do better

News of Soler’s new deal should not serve as too much of a blow for Tottenham.

The 22-year-old is a raw talent, but his statistics of just 10 goals and 17 assists in 125 first-team appearances are not the most promising.

There are better options out there for Spurs to consider, and they also have youngster Jack Clarke to blood next season.
