A Daily Mail report from exactly a year ago regarding Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer plans for the summer seems to suggest that Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler was set to be a transfer target for the club last summer.
The report suggested Mauricio Pochettino was a big fan of the Spaniard and it followed previous reports in January from ESPN that Spurs were considering a £30 million move.
Of course, no deal ever happened, with Soler eventually signing a new deal with Los Che in December.
But considering Jose Mourinho is also still a fan, perhaps Soler is the perfect crossover Tottenham target.
It was reported by The Independent in November 2017 that Mourinho was ready to make Soler his only Manchester United transfer target for the upcoming January transfer window.
The report claimed a potential £40 million bid could be made for Soler, with then-Valencia loanee Andreas Pereira also thrown into the deal.

There is no doubt that Tottenham need some major changes this summer after a difficult campaign.
Soler would be a great addition in the midfield, given his versatility and the current weaknesses in that area.
Considering he was on the radar under Pochettino and Mourinho is known to be a fan, perhaps Tottenham need to consider making a move this summer.
One major stumbling block, however, would be his price-tag. As reported in Valencia’s official statement regarding Soler’s new deal in December, his contract contains a €150 million (£136m) release clause.
Whilst there is no way Valencia could demand such a fee for the player, Tottenham would undoubtedly have to pay a huge sum to get a player both Pochettino and Mourinho are reportedly fond of.
