Carlos Sanchez has posted his delight on Instagram after finally returning to West Ham training after undergoing surgery back in October – just weeks after joining the club.

Sanchez, 33, joined West Ham from Serie A side Fiorentina for a fee believed to be in the region of £3.9million (Viola Nation). But he has only played six times for the Hammers.

Only 10 minutes into West Ham’s 8-0 Carabao Cup win over Macclesfield Town, Sanchez was forced off the London Stadium pitch after picking up a knee injury. It required an operation.

Now, the former Aston Villa midfielder has posted on Instagram after returning to training – six months after first undergoing the operation. He stated that he is “happy to be back”.

TBR’s view

West Ham fans had their doubts about the Colombia World Cup star when he signed, after a disappointing spell at Aston Villa earlier on in his career. Now 33, he is well into the latter stages of his career.

Spotrac claim he is earning a whopping £50,000 a week. So, Sanchez seriously needs a chance in the first team and the opportunity to show fans that he is worth every penny – because he certainly has not done that so far.

But with captain Mark Noble, youngster and new England cap Declan Rice and even Pedro Obiang impressing – there is little room for Sanchez to manoeuvre.
