Carlos Mane reportedly available and Newcastle United should consider revisiting interest

Last summer Newcastle United were linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon winger Carlos Mane. As reported by TEAMtalk, the Toon were keeping tabs on the Portuguese talent along with Everton.

Once considered one of Europe’s top teenage wingers, Mane has struggled to maintain his progress at Sporting Lisbon.

With that in mind, Sporting have told him he can leave. That is according to a report from Record, who suggest he will make a permanent exit this summer.

So should Newcastle United return for the player?

At 25-years-old the former Portugal under-21 star fits the age profile of a potential Newcastle target. He also clearly has bags of potential, even if he has struggled of late. A knee injury in 2017 has seriously hampered his development, the wideman missing the entire 2017-18 season as a consequence.

He finished last season on loan at Union Berlin, helping them reel in Hamburg and secure promotion to the Bundesliga.

That deal had an option for the German side to purchase Mane. However, as reported by Renasenca, minor injury concerns saw the capital club step away from a deal. A Bola reported that the deal to buy Mane was in the region of €5 million (£4.4 million).

That could be seen as a bargain for a player who, in 2015, signed a new deal which according to Mais Futebol contained a €60 million (£53.7 million) release clause.

Keep him fit and Mane can be a potent threat from out wide with massive sell-on opportunities for Newcastle United.
