Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Pepe Reina on loan from AC Milan on Monday evening and former Villa defender Carlos Cuellar has predicted that the Spanish stopper will be an “amazing signing”.
Reina, 37, has agreed a loan move to Villa from Milan until the end of the season, after playing just once for Milan during the first half of the season. Villa needed a keeper after Tom Heaton was ruled out for the rest of the campaign.
World Cup winner Reina brings with him a huge wealth of experience after nearly 800 professional appearances at club level for Liverpool, Barcelona, Villarreal, Bayern Munich, Napoli and AC Milan. Now, he is set to ass Villa to that impressive list.
Former Aston Villa defender Cuellar reacted to the news that his old side had brought in veteran goalkeeper Reina on loan from the Rossoneri, and Cuellar is delighted – describing Reina as an “amazing signing”.
Gran fichaje para mis villanos tras la lesión de Heaton. Aportará experiencia, seguridad y será de gran ayuda para conseguir la salvación. Amazing signing after Heaton's injury. He’ll contribute with experience, security and will be of great help to avoid relegation. Suerte Pepe! https://t.co/vNTxoitT5W

Reina is expected to replace Norway international Orjan Nyland who has impressed between the sticks since coming in for Reina. Indeed, Nyland produced a stunning display against Leicester in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Liverpool icon Reina watched on as Villa conceded six against Manchester City last weekend, and he could now start in the next two crucial relegation six-pointers against Brighto away from home and the in-form Watford at Villa Park.
