Carlos Cuellar has wished his old Rangers side the best of luck as they begin their qualification process to reach the Europa League group stage on Thursday afternoon against St. Joseph’s.

Rangers have travelled to Gibraltar to take on St. Joseph’s, with the Gers firmly expected to cruise past their first opponents and into the second round of qualifying. There are four rounds, of which contain eight matches.

Rangers earned their place in the group stage last term, beating NK Maribor, Osijek, FC Ufa and SK Shkupi. Now, they begin in Gibraltar, and Steven Gerrard has named a strong side.

New signings Jordan Jones and Sheyi Ojo get the nod, while Alfredo Morelos has been left on the bench in favour of Jermain Defoe. Borna Barisic starts at left-back, and Cuellar has reacted to the team news on Twitter.

TBR’s view – Pressure is now on Rangers and Gerrard

Last season, Rangers were against the odds to qualify for the group stage of the Europa League. This season, Rangers are expected to match what they did last season – and if not – go one better.

Rangers beat difficult opponents and had goalkeeper Allan McGregor to thank against the likes of Ufa and Shkupi. This time, they are more than expected to beat St. Joseph’s.
