Carlos Cuellar has picked his best four Rangers players during an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, after his old side ended their 10-year wait to win the Scottish Premiership title – and stopping Celtic in their pursuit of 10 in a row.

Following the 3-0 win over St. Mirren on Saturday, Celtic were tasked with beating Dundee United on Sunday in order to at least delay Rangers being mathematically confirmed as champions. However, they only managed a 0-0 draw at Tannadice.

Celebrations ensued with plenty of clips being uploaded on social media. Rangers fans broke lockdown rules to party outside Ibrox, with some reports suggesting a total of 30,000 fans surrounded the stadium. It has been a remarkable season for the Gers.

Though there are still six league games to play and a Europa League campaign, ex-Rangers defender Cuellar picked the four best players from this season – naming Morelos as well as goalkeeper Allan McGregor, captain James Tavernier and Ianis Hagi.

“I would choose, especially, Morelos, El Búfalo. He has power, he presses, he scores goals,” Cuellar said. “McGregor, he played with me, but he still earns points. Ianis Hagi has a lot of quality and Tavernier is a right-back, but he contributes a lot of goals.”

TBR’s view – Morelos, Tavernier and McGregor, but Hagi?

In terms of Player of the Season shouts – Morelos, Tavernier and McGregor are all within a good shout. Morelos has changed his game to prove more of a team player, having a hand in 27 goals. Tavernier has contributed 17 goals and 15 assists.

McGregor, who is now 39, has kept an impressive 20 clean sheets in 34 games – conceding just 23 goals. But Hagi has been in and out of the side and while the Romanian has had a hand in 18 goals in 36 games, there are other options for POTS.

Steven Davis has arguably been the club’s best player, while Ryan Kent has eclipsed £19k-a-week star (Sport.Ro) Hagi. There is no doubting that Hagi has been good, but the likes of Davis, Kent and even Connor Goldson have outperformed him this season.
