Carlos Corberan might have just given Leeds United fans a big hint for Aston Villa clash

Leeds United’s under-23s took on their Newcastle United counterparts this evening in the semi-final of the Premier League cup. As per usual, the Leeds youngsters contained a mix of talented youth players with a smattering of first-teamers also present.

Two of those first-teamers were Gaetano Berardi and Kalvin Phillips.

Berardi’s presence was no surprise. The Swiss defender has had a tough campaign with injuries and needs football under his belt, even at this stage of the season.

Phillips, however, has not been an under-23 regular this term. The midfielder has been included in the Championship team of the season and improved immensely under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa.

However, he was dropped for the weekend clash against Brentford, much to the ire of many a Leeds fan.

But it seems both were just getting a run out ahead of featuring against Aston Villa at the weekend. Berardi and Phillips both came off at half-time.

Berardi could be asked to fill in at left-back, after Ezgjan Alioski joined Barry Douglas on the treatment table. Phillips meanwhile will hopefully come back into the starting XI to help combat this Aston Villa side who are currently on a 10-game winning streak.
