Carlo Ancelotti to decide Ellis Simms’ future this summer as Championship clubs plot transfer of Everton striker
According to The Athletic, Carlo Ancelotti is to decide on Ellis Simms’ immediate future at Everton after pre-season amid interest from Championship clubs in a possible loan transfer.
The Toffees have been pleased with Simms’ development since leaving Merseyside in the January transfer window to join Blackpool for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.
Simms scored eight goals and offered two assists in 21 League One appearances to help the Seasiders secure their place in the play-offs, having lost just three of the games in which the 20-year-old featured.
Everton are yet to make a decision on Simms’ future at Goodison Park, with the striker soon set to enter the final year of his current contract and is said to be in the dark over the club’s plans for his career.
It is expected that he will return to Finch Farm following the conclusion of Blackpool’s play-off campaign, and spend the summer working with Everton during their pre-season plans before any discussions are held.
Simms’ form at Bloomfield Road has sparked interest from Championship sides in taking the forward on loan next term, while one of the other three clubs set to compete in the League One play-offs were also among a host of keen League One teams in January.
With Simms set to enter the final year of his contract this summer, the striker is entering a crucial period of his career as he must either continue to show Everton that he has the potential to cut it at Goodison Park or impress suitors to earn a deal elsewhere.
His efforts in League One have given Simms a solid platform to now build on after being a prolific goalscorer in youth football, netting 41 times in 44 U18 games and 17 in 36 with the U23s, while regularly receiving praise from Blackpool boss Neil Critchley.
The Seasiders coach reiterated his belief that Simms is a ‘real handful’ to The Athletic, while previously praising the powerful runner for showing ‘real signs of progression’ which has clearly left an impression on Everton and will go a long way toward him securing a new deal.
