Everton are said to be interested in the signature of Mario Gotze, according to reports. The German international, who famously scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final, is out of contract at Borussia Dortmund in the summer. As reported by Bild, Everton and West Ham are keen on the player, if he agrees to a reduction in his £170k-a-week wages.
Everton’s move for the player would certainly be interesting, considering the fact Carlo Ancelotti was the manager at Bayern Munich when Gotze was sold.

Gotze joined Bayern in 2013 but struggled to be a regular force at the Allianz Arena. After three years he left, returning to Dortmund for a reported (Guardian) £21.7 million, admitting he regretted his move to Bavaria.
Reports at the time suggested Ancelotti was fully on board with the decision. As reported by Suddeutsche Zeitung, the Italian advised Gotze to ‘change clubs’ as he could not offer him regular football in Munich.
As reported by ESPN, shortly before Gotze left Bayern, Ancelotti wished him all the best in his future endeavors.
“I haven’t spoken with the club yet because we were focussed only on this game. If Gotze leaves the club, then I wish him good luck for the new season.
“We have a fantastic squad. That’s it, I have nothing else to say.”
But that doesn’t mean Ancelotti would not particularly want to work with Gotze now.
At Bayern, Gotze’s time was clearly up and the club were also set to bring Europe’s top young talent of that summer, Renato Sanches, in from Benfica.
Perhaps Ancelotti would relish the opportunity to work with Gotze four years after being denied the chance.
But it would still be an odd move considering he was the last manager to sell Gotze if he then signed him at Goodison Park.
