Everton’s season appears to be rolling toward an insignificant halt. Relegation no longer looks like a realistic issue, the club are out of the cups and a brief dalliance with European qualification has dissipated.
With that in mind, it could represent a perfect chance for Carlo Ancelotti to blood some youngsters and see if they are cut out for next season.
One in particular that Everton fans would love to see is striker Ellis Simms.

The former Manchester City academy player has been in fine form for Everton’s youth teams since arriving in 2017. Last season, Simms scored an incredible 37 goals in 29 games. This campaign, after stepping up from the under-18s to the under-23s, has been slightly more difficult, with Simms scoring nine times in 19 appearances but he remains highly thought of at Finch Farm.
Just last month, after Simms had scored the winning goal against Watford, under-23 boss David Unsworth hailed him as ‘absolutely superb’ to the official Everton website.
With little else to play for this season Everton would do well to see which young players can cut it at the Premier League level and goal-machine Simms immediately stands out as a potential candidate.
If he proves to be a threat, then it could end up saving Everton investing millions in another striker in the summer.
