Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has waxed lyrical about Toffees forward James Rodriguez following his impressive performance at Goodison Park on Friday night.

The 29-year-old was influential for Everton once again as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Tottenham Hotspur.

Rodriguez won the penalty that drew the Toffees level in the first half and almost got on the scoresheet himself a few minutes later.

According to Whoscored, he had two shots on target, made four key passes, attempted seven crosses, took 86 touches of the ball, played four accurate long balls, and had an 88 percent accuracy from his 59 passes.

Impressive statistics by a world-class player, and speaking after the game, Ancelotti couldn’t help but sing his praises.

“When he is fit he is always influential,” the Italian told Sky Sports, as transcribed by BBC Sport.

“He is a player of another level because with the ball he is fantastic. He always has a good pass and he is important for us.”

Rodriguez has been a great addition to the Everton ranks, and even though he’s had some time on the sidelines due to knocks and injuries, he’s been incredible when available.

Sadly the Toffees’ season has all but fizzled out following an impressive start, but Ancelotti will no doubt make the necessary tweaks and additions needed to be much stronger next season.

And with a player of Rodriguez’s calibre in the team until at least next season – the club has an option for another year – there’s potential for Everton to build on their efforts and do even better.
