Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has heaped praise on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, branding the Englishman ‘a fantastic striker’.

The 23-year-old was on target once again at the weekend, hitting an equaliser against Burnley at Turf Moor.

He’s now up to 11 Premier League goals for the season, and leads the scoring charts.

The impact Ancelotti has had on Calvert-Lewin is there for all to see, and even the manager is a little surprised by his development.

He said (Liverpool Echo): “He is a fantastic striker. Honestly, I didn’t expect this kind of consistency to score goals. At least every game he has scored goals, this is really important for us. He really improved in the box, the movement he has in the box is, really, outstanding.

“He is a big surprise and I hope he will be a surprise until the end of the season.”

Calvert-Lewin is on course to smash his previous best for Premier League goals in one season, with the 13 he got last season his highest tally in the competition.

TBR’s View – Calvert-Lewin Everton’s shining light

Arguably, the rise of Calvert-Lewin has been the biggest positive of Ancelotti’s reign so far.

Some expected him to tail off, but the £20,000-a-week star (Spotrac) has been magnificent.

So long as he keeps up this kind of form, Everton have got to be in with a chance of finishing amongst the European places.
