Carlo Ancelotti has told the Liverpool Echo that goalkeeper Robin Olsen is good enough to put the required pressure on the first-choice custodian Jordan Pickford.
The Swedish performer was signed on transfer deadline day from Serie A club Roma and was named ahead of Jonas Lossl on the bench in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

Pickford has struggled to hit consistent form for some time now and it had been hoped that signing another goalkeeper would improve his form.
On Saturday, the 26-year-old suffered a bittersweet time of things between the posts. He could have seen red for a dreadful challenge on Virgil van Dijk but did make some decent stops.
Ancelotti continues to pick him, however but does think Olsen will serve a purpose following his arrival.
He told the Liverpool Echo: “Robin is a good goalkeeper as we signed him because I think he can help the squad to be better.
“All players in the squad are there to compete and play and this is his role; to compete in training, work hard with a good spirit and attitude and then I will decide the line-up.”
Olsen, 30, is an experienced performer and one who could certainly do a job if called upon by Ancelotti.
He’s played 44 times in Serie A and has also spent time playing in Norway, Denmark and Greece during his career.

Pickford’s form does need to improve and with plenty of English goalkeepers playing well, his place in the national side is under threat.
If Olsen can get the ex-Sunderland man back into some sort of form then he will have served a purpose and could prove a decent acquisition.
