The Carabao Cup is back for the 2025/26 season, and many clubs have their sights set on silverware this year.
The League Cup has been a staple in English football since 1961, with 24 different winners of the competition in that time.
Last season saw Newcastle lift the Carabao Cup, beating Liverpool in the final at Wembley Stadium, two years on from their defeat at the same stage to Manchester United.
This time around, plenty of teams will fancy their chances to win the trophy, earning some memorable silverware and a place in European competition.
There is some prize money up for grabs, too, with the amount each team can earn in the Carabao Cup now revealed.

Carabao Cup prize money for each round win in 2025/26
Compared to other competitions, the Carabao Cup offers a lower amount of prize money for the top clubs.
While the FA Cup, Champions League and Premier League all offer much more, the competition has seen some clubs go on terrific runs.
It is also a chance at silverware, something the financial accounts cannot put a price on.
In terms of prize money, though, it is relatively negligible for the Premier League clubs, at least.
| Round | Prize money |
|---|---|
| First Round winners | £5,000 |
| Second Round winners | £7,000 |
| Third Round winners | £10,000 |
| Fourth Round winners | £15,000 |
| Quarter-Final winners | £25,000 |
| Semi-Final winners | £25,000 |
| Runners-up | £50,000 |
| Winners | £100,000 |
Non-European clubs in the top flight enter in the second round, while those involved in European competition will enter from the third round.
Cumulatively, the rounds can start to add up the money, not accounting for hosting matches and the broadcasting revenue that is involved in the competition.

How much can the winners of the Carabao Cup earn in prize money
The winners are given £100,000 for lifting the Carabao Cup, a fraction of the amount for winning the FA Cup, which stands at £2 million.
Their overall amount earned from the competition will depend on what stage they entered, however.
If a club from round one manages to go on and win the whole thing, then they will earn £187,000.
Clubs from round two earn £182,000, while those from round three onwards land £175,000.
In 2024/25, Newcastle earned £182,000 from their run in the Carabao Cup, entering in at round two and making it all the way to lifting the trophy in the final.
