Jack Grealish and John McGinn have been at the heart of Aston Villa’s push to the Championship play-off final for the second straight season.
But Villa captain Grealish has admitted he didn’t have any idea who the Scotland international was before he moved to Villa Park last summer, according to the Sunday People, page 51, 19/05.
He said of McGinn: “I didn’t have a clue who he was. Steve Bruce pulled me one day and said, ‘we’ve got a god player coming in – John McGinn.’ He has been a breath of fresh air.
“He is one of the best I have ever played with – and I’ve played with some decent players.”
In an era where English clubs are pulling players in from all over the world, McGinn’s success since coming in from Scottish football is a welcome reminder that there could be some quality closer to home.
With the access fans, players and clubs have to players in all leagues now, it’s perhaps surprising that Grealish hadn’t heard of McGinn beforehand, but all that really matters for Villa fans is that the two produce the form they have all season one more time to get them over the line at Wembley.
And both men have the quality to shine in the Premier League if Dean Smith can get his side there.
